At DeClerk LP Gas, your safety is our priority. Listed below are winter weather safety tips. If you ever have any questions, please call us!  870-892-5273

Always Maintain an Adequate Supply of Propane in Your Tank

A severe winter storm can hinder additional propane delivers. Call us before the storm hits.

Stay In Regular Contact With Us

When you stay in regular contact with DeClerk LP Gas, we will be able to arrange a refill long before you run out of propane.

Contact Us IMMEDIATELY if You Run Out of Propane

One of our qualified service technicians MUST check your system for leaks before turning gas back on.

Use Energy Wisely

Use energy conservatively by setting your programmable thermostat to as low as comfortable. Close off any rooms that don’t need to be heated.

Keep the Path to Your Propane Tank Clear

A clear path helps our drivers deliver your gas safely. Clear snow and ice from around your tank, regulators vents, piping, tubing and valves. Use a broom instead of a shovel to prevent damage to your propane system components.

Allow Your Appliances to Vent Properly

If it is safe to do so, clear snow and ice away from outdoor vents, chimneys, and lues to prevent blocking of ventilation.

If You Smell Gas, Follow These Steps

Immediately put out all smoking materials and other open flames. Do not operate lights, appliances, telephones, or cellphones. Get everyone away from the home or area where you suspect gas is leaking. If safe to do so, close or shut off the main gas supply valve by turning it to the right (clockwise). Call us immediately from your safe place to report the leak. If we cannot be reached, call 911. Do not return to the area until an emergency responder or a qualified technician from DeClerk LP Gas gives the OK.

Never Use a Stove or Bring Your Gas Grill Indoors for Space Heating, Even During a Power Outage

Only use appliances indoors that are designed and approved for that purpose. Never store, place, or use a propane cylinder indoors or in enclosed areas. Never use outdoor propane-powered appliances indoors or in enclosed areas. Without proper ventilation, deadly carbon monoxide (CO) fumes produced can build up.

Operate Portable Generators With Caution

Never use a portable generator (gasoline, diesel, or propane) indoors or in enclosed areas. Doing so can result in carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning or death.

Ultimate guide to standby power generation

By | Propane Incentives | No Comments

Propane is the ideal standby power fuel during a power outage.  A standby generator powered by propane offers advantages that other fuel sources can’t match.  For example a permanently installed above or below ground tank starts automatically the moment the power goes down.  The role of standby generator is to keep the heating and cooling, lighting, refrigeration, and other critical building amenities in operation.

Propane generators make it easier for commercial buildings to achieve more comprehensive protection without having to go through the challenges of diesel-fueled generators.  Standby power will provide the primary function of a home and save damage to electronics, food, and your heat or air.  Propane does not degrade over time making it the ideal power fuel.

Propane Standby Generators Offers Power for Your Peace of Mind

By | Residential Propane | No Comments

With a propane standby generator, your family can spend the next power outage playing games, reading, and relaxing while the neighbors search for candles and flashlights. Give your family greater comfort, security, and safety with a propane standby generator.

The Cost of Being Unprepared

The average power outage costs homeowners $1,250 in spoiled food, eating at restaurants, damage to electronics and homes, lost wages from home businesses, and hotel or temporary relocation costs.

A standby generator powered by propane offers advantages that other fuel sources simply can’t match:

  • Permanently installed and supplied by an above- or belowground tank, it starts automatically, the moment the power goes down.
  • Supplies supplemental electricity in as little as 10 seconds after an outage.
  • Propane doesn’t degrade over time, unlike diesel or gasoline, making it an ideal standby power fuel.
  • Most units produce as little as 60 decibels of noise, comparable to a normal conversation.
  • Available in a variety of capacities to fit the needs of any size home.
  • Produces significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions than diesel or gasoline.
  • Propane is non-toxic, non-poisonous, and won’t contaminate soil or water.
  • Can handle an entire home’s energy needs for days, unlike solar- or wind-powered systems.

The same propane that will power a home’s generator can also power the other major appliances that make life less stressful during a power outage.

Propane Autogas Grabs Sales

By | Propane News | No Comments

Propane autogas is garnering customers among fleets large and small, creating a buzz in the alternative fuel market and with fleet managers.

And when Dish Network, the Fortune 500 satellite TV provider, announced in the PERC booth at the Work Truck Show in March that it would begin operating 200 Roush CleanTech Ford E-250 propane-autogas cargo vans, national media outlets were listening.

Dish said it could save as much as $2,500 per vehicle annually on fuel costs by switching from gasoline to propane autogas.

Those numbers got attention.

The Reuters news service heard a good story and they jumped on it, putting together a solid piece that was picked up by the Chicago Tribune,, and numerous trade publications serving the fleet, automotive and alternative fuel market.

Look, we have a ways to go. Ask your neighbors about alternative fuel for vehicles and they might mention electric cars or CNG for trash trucks.

But the Dish news put propane autogas front and center with fleet managers across the country.

Propane Safety

By | Propane Safety | No Comments

Propane is a very safe fuel. But as with any energy source, there are steps you should take to further ensure your safety:

  • If you detect a gas leak, immediately evacuate everyone from the house and call your local propane provider or the fire department from a neighbor’s telephone.
  • Learn what propane smells like. Propane retailers have scratch-and-sniff pamphlets to help your family recognize its distinctive odor.
  • Know where gas lines are located, so you won’t damage them when digging or working in the yard.
  • Change or clean furnace filters regularly as recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Don’t store cleaning fluids, oil-soaked rags, gasoline, or other flammable liquids near a gas-burning appliance where vapors could be ignited by the pilot light. Propane is a very safe fuel. Propane’s unique molecular properties make it much safer and cleaner than related petroleum-based energy sources. As with any energy source, there are steps you should take to further ensure your safety.

Propane Safety FAQs

Building with Propane

By | Propane Construction | No Comments

Benefits of building with Propane include:

  • It’s clean energy.  Propane gives off less than half of the greenhouse gas emissions that electricity does, considering that most of the nation’s electric power is fueled by coal-fired power plants.
  • It reduces energy costs. Propane appliances are typically far more efficient than their electric counterparts.
  • It supports modern lifestyles. Propane provides your customers with the ability to choose first-rate amenities regardless of where they live. Propane space heating is available in both forced-air and hydronic forms, and it  doesn’t depend on the availability of natural gas or electricity. And, propane generators can provide peace of mind for customers in locations that experience rolling blackouts or frequent storm-related power outages.
